Almost Bipolar

It was my first time to talk to a certified co-fan of Up Dharma Down: Paolo, my college classmate, 1st from left (sorry blurred).

I remember, back in 2007, it was my first time to watch UDD at Magnet Cafe, Th Fort. Here's Armi, on vocals.

Anyway, over dinner at Paolo and Raena's place, Paolo was showing us an unedited video of the first artist whom they will be featuring on "Encore", a show he's directing on Channel V, Philippines. Up Dharma Down!! He said i should watch it, that it will air in a week or so. He said he'll inform me.

Today, he and raena did. I was so excited!

But something didn't feel right when i read the message. True enough, i totally forgot that our cable network was Destiny Cable, which, unfortunately, didn't carry Channel V Philippines. There you go. Aaaaaargghhh!

The good news is, Paolo promised to give me a copy of this feature. Fingers crossed, hehe! For the mean time, i think i shall grab my own copy of udd's Bipolar album. Better late than never.

Good God Born Again Funk

I was browsing through Colette's page, searching for the next hippest stuff in the market today. Very rarely do i enjoy the music being played/featured on their website but this time i was enjoying the classic-blues-funk music so much that i clicked its featured artist. The band was "Gospel Comforters" and the title of the song was "Yes, God Is Real". I searched for the album, and behold, i saw a compilation album of "Born Again Funk."


The Numero Group’s 2006 release Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal examined what seemed to be a conundrum: gospel singers performing pious gospel songs, and devoutly, but doing so amid hot, sweaty, earthy sounds drunk on the same moonshine downed by any blues singer thumbing his way up north from the Mississippi delta. If the central premise was to grapple with a “funky” trend in gospel, forgive us for staring perhaps a bit too intently at the collision of sacred and profane we thought we saw on those LPs and 45s. This music was always sacred, and decidedly so.
Four years later, Numero returns with not quite a New Testament, rather a re-examination of a weighty tome. Born Again Funk lends new ears to a joyful strain of American composers and performers unafraid of expressing their devotion with both inspiration and invention. They were faithful to a spirit, not to an ordained sound.

I really like the name "Gospel Comforters." Gospel comfort to Blues Music. Coolness!

Polkadot-face

I am recovering from a terrible, persistent dry cough called Asthma. And at the same time, my face is recovering from a painful facial procedure that caused tiny black dots all over my face. The procedure's called wart removal. Or coterization. Damn, it hurt!

Anyway, after 2 days of feeling so ugly with the multiple dot-scabs covering my face, i saw my 9-year-old baby brother who just came home from school. I welcomed him then offered my cheek for a kiss. But when his face was about to touch mine, he looked at my face in scrutiny and horrified he asked, "Are you sick?". I said yes. And then he decided, "ewww, polkadots." He didn't want to kiss me anymore.

Coffee Bean Cup Wonder

How i wish it was i who designed this multi-purpose mouth cover/thingy (as opposed to Starbucks, where they only use the very elegant scotch tape to prevent your to-go cup from spilling)

The cover that locks at the mouth of your lid becomes a stirrer when taken out

My 2009 Realizations

1. When depressed, Royce chocolates are a girl's bestfriend.
2. Never knew M.J. can be so addicting. Golly, in desperation, i try some of his moves.
3. In relationships, i'm more into companionship than romance. I'd say, no rockstar would want me.
4. After years of plain stubbornness, i realized that being friends with time was never easy.
5. Having online stalkers like anonymous blog readers who'd post links to a cybersex site is no joke. Please God, why these?
6. I am so so so so so hurt right now. Is there a way i can skip this stage?
7. I figured my year 2009 was not healthy at all. What's up hair fall?!
8. There are a million and one things i should be thankful for. Number one, salmon sashimi; number two, genmai cha. Why so downcast, oh my soul?
